It’s time to celebrate 29 years of Macleod Refuge providing crisis accommodation to women and children escaping domestic violence.

Join us in raising much-needed funds by attending our first Gala Dinner on February 29 2020 at the QT Hotel, Gold Coast.

All proceeds will go towards furnishing our new refuge, due to be completed in mid-2020. This refuge will feature eight new, pet-friendly apartments.

At the Gala Dinner, you will enjoy a three-course meal, drinks package, live entertainment, raffles and silent auctions.

Macleod Refuge has operated on the Gold Coast since 1992. It provides crisis accommodation, trauma counselling and connects women with community groups and agencies that can assist with health, income, education and life skills.

Refuge manager Rosemary Larkin said all Macleod buildings, staffing and administrative costs were funded by the Queensland Government. However, in the case of the new apartment complex, the cost of furnishing the units has not been covered — hence the need for local support.

She said Macleod’s existing units are always at capacity, which is why the organisation sought funding to build more.

“Sadly, we don’t have any downtime. All our units are professionally cleaned with a next day turnaround and we are always at capacity, with five crisis units and six other units in the community,” she said.

“This means we are supporting 11 women and up to 28 children at any given time, but there are so many more people we could be helping.”
